Advocacy and Legislation

Greetings from the Legislation Coordinator ...

Alyson Stover, JD, OTR/L     Legislation Coordinator
2017

As busy practitioners, educators or consultants, we frequently get caught up in the everyday rush of work, family and other obligations. How often do we take time to think about career security? What guarantees that when we wake up tomorrow we will have somewhere to work, clients to treat, or students to teach? An important part of that answer is Advocacy and attending to the goings-on in our Pennsylvania legislature.
  • First and foremost it is important that we all understand how much our everyday practice and work is affected by both Washington and Harrisburg.
  • Secondly, we must recognize our own role and responsibility to this process.

Perhaps we feel intimidated at the prospect of interacting with senators and representatives, or we feel as if we don't know enough to even make a phone call of support. This section has information to help you feel a part of what we call Advocacy. I hope you will take time to read and educate yourself about what is happening in our state legislature, and explore ways that you can help us better inform our policy makers about Occupational Therapy!

April 2017 declared OT Month in Pennsylvania House of Representatives!
